What is MBR (Membrane Bioreactor)?

Membrane bioreactor is a new type of high efficiency wastewater treatment equipment that combines high efficiency membrane separation technology with the traditional activated sludge method. It replaces the secondary sedimentation tank in the traditional activated sludge method with a membrane module to trap a large number of microbial flora in the biological system. It not only promotes the accumulation of the number of microbial flora and biological species in the system, but also improves the sewage treatment capacity and efficiency. The effluent water quality and volume load of the system will be greatly improved, and the effluent water quality is equivalent to the effect of secondary settling tank with microfiltration/ultrafiltration.

MBR can complete the functions of biodegradation and solid-liquid separation in a processing structure. Its main components include bioreactor(pollutant degradation site), membrane module(composed of membrane and its supporting parts) and control system. According to the different placement of membrane modules and bioreactors, MBR can be divided into external and submerged. In the external MBR, the mixed liquid enters the inside of the membrane module by pressurization, the liquid enters the inside through the membrane, and the solid particles are trapped on the surface of the membrane, then the concentrated liquid returns to the bioreactor for circulation. The submerged MBR directly places the membrane module inside the reactor.

HONGTEK provides submersible PVDF Hollow Fiber MBR Membrane Module, which is composed of modified PVDF material and polyester interlayer support net. It has good water permeability, mechanical properties, chemical resistance and anti-pollution ability. The filtration grade is 0.1 micro.

MBR is a more commonly used new technology for wastewater treatment with the following features: 1. High solid-liquid separation efficiency, good and stable water outlet effect, and little influence by water quality; 2. The sludge concentration of the mixed liquid is high, and the remaining sludge output is small. It can be operated under high volume load and low sludge load; 3. Long sludge age, good nitrification and denitrification effect, and high nitrogen removal efficiency; 4. No need to consider sludge swelling; 5. The reactor has a compact structure and a small footprint.

MBR is generally used in wastewater treatment and reclaimed water reuse in municipal, living, hospital, chemical, petroleum, chemical fiber, printing and dyeing, electroplating, etc. Because the MBR process is simple, easy to operate, stable operation and space saving advantages, MBR process is widely used now.
