5-Steps Selection Guide for PPH Filter Housings


Stainless steel corrodes. Titanium and PVDF cost too much. Need a material that resists strong acids and alkalis without breaking the bank? Try PPH filters. This engineering plastic handles corrosive liquids that stainless steel can't. It costs far less than special metals and performs well in most industrial applications. Here's how to choose in five steps. 


Step 1: Know your goal

Just removing large particles or protecting downstream pumps and valves? Use a basket strainer. It works like a large screen. Need general particle filtration? A bag filter is the most common choice. Need fine filtration down to micron level? Choose a cartridge filter. Need both high flow and fine filtration? Consider the high flow series.

Step 2: Check flow rate. 

Low flow? A single bag or single cartridge is enough. Medium flow? Try a single size 2 bag or a small multi-cartridge with two or three pieces. High flow? Step 3: Check corrosivity

This is the most critical step. PPH handles most acids like hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid, plus most alkalis and oxidizers like hypochlorite. But avoid PPH for extreme oxidizers such as high-concentration sulfuric acid and some organic solvents. For those demanding applications, upgrade to PVDF. It costs more but provides much better chemical resistance.

Step 4: Check temperature and pressure

Temperature and pressure work together. When one rises, the other must fall. PPH Series Single Bag Filter Housing handles normal pressure well at room temperature. At 40-50°C, reduce pressure slightly. Above 60-70°C, pressure drops significantly. For high-temperature or high-pressure conditions, choose PVDF instead. Viton seals are standard and perform reliably with chemicals and heat. 


Step 5: Match connections and space

First, check port size. Most industrial filters range from DN40 to DN100. Second, check connection type. Side-in side-out is common. Multi-bag and high flow series often use bottom-in bottom-out for better draining. Third, check the cap type. Small housings use screw caps. Large or multi-cartridge housings use swing bolts.


Three questions guide your selection. First, flow rate: small needs single units, large needs multiple. Second, liquid and temperature: most acids, alkalis, and salts work with PPH; extreme cases need PVD Series PVDF Plastic Single Size#2 Filter Bag Housing.
