High flow FRP filter housing has acid and alkali resistance and high corrosion performance. It often replaces stainless steel filter housing to filter liquids with high salt content, such as seawater, brackish water, etc. High flow FRP filter housings are usually installed with PALL Ultipleat High Flow Filter or PARKER Megaflow High Flow Filter. The installation and replacement of high flow filter system is one of the important steps to maintain its high filtration effect. Let us learn more about the installation and replacement of the high flow FRP filtration system.

What are the Types of FRP High Flow Filter Housing?

FRP filter housing can be classified into vertical and horizontal FRP filter housing according to the installation direction, and can be divided into single and multi cartridge filter housing according to the number of installed filter elements. Various types of filter housing can meet the requirements of flow rate, pressure, footprint, etc. when designing filtration system in different fields.

1. Vertical FRP High Flow Filter Housing

The vertical FRP filter housing can be installed with single or multi high flow filter cartridges. When designing a filtration system, in order to meet the requirements of the flow rate and footprint of the filtration system, you can choose to install one single/multi FRP filter housing or install multiple single/multi FRP filter housings working in parallel.

2. Horizontal FRP High Flow Filter Housing

Horizontal FRP filter housing is usually installed with a high flow filter. It is generally installed in parallel to meet the flow rate requirements of various filtration systems. Moreover, horizontal FRP high flow filter housings are usually installed in vertical parallel, so that the space can be utilized as much as possible and the footprint of the filtration system can be reduced.

How to Install the FRP High Flow Filtration System?

There are two types of FRP high flow filtration systems: vertical and horizontal FRP filtration systems, which generally consists of one single/multi FRP filter housing, or consists of multiple single/multi FRP filter housing in parallel. The installation steps of vertical and horizontal FRP filtration systems are different. Let's take a look at how the FRP filter system is installed.

1. Vertical FRP Filtration System Installation and Replacement Guide

1) Check and confirm that the vertical FRP filter housing meets the specifications first and ensure that there is no damage. Then open the top cover of the housing, take out the pressure gauge, exhaust valve, fixed mount and other parts in the housing, install the exhaust valve, drain valve and pressure gauge;

2) Make sure the filtration system is stopped, and close the inlet valve upstream and outlet valve downstream of the FRP filter housing. If one single/multi FRP filter housing is installed, directly connect and fix the flange/clamp of the inlet/outlet to the inlet/outlet pipes respectively. If installing multiple single/multi FRP filter housing, first assemble the multiple filter housing in parallel horizontally, and then connect the flanges/clamp of the housing inlet/outlet to the inlet/outlet pipes respectively;

3) If a high flow filter cartridge is installed, directly rinse the inside of the FRP filter housing with clean water, drain the water in the housing through the drain port after cleaning, and then close the drain valve tightly. If you want to replace the high flow filter, you need to open the exhaust valve on the top of the filter housing to release the pressure, then open the top cover of the housing, take out the high flow filter cartridge that need to be replaced, and finally clean the inside of the filter housing with clean water. After the sewage is exhausted through the drain port, close the drain valve tightly;

4) Unpack the new High Flow Filter Cartridge and apply lubricant to the filter cartridge seal ring. Then, grab the handle at one end of the high flow cartridge by hand, and install the filter cartridge into the FRP housing vertically, so that the sealing ring on the filter cartridge is in close contact with the retaining ring of the housing, and then install the fixed mount;

5) Cover the top of the FRP high flow filter housing, and tighten the swing bolt to seal the filter housing;

6) Start the vertical FRP filtration system, slightly open the water inlet valve upstream of the filter housing, let the liquid enter and fill full the housing, until the liquid over flows from the exhaust port, close the exhaust valve;

7) Slowly open the water outlet valve downstream of the FRP housing until it is fully opened, and then slowly adjust the water inlet valve upstream of the filter housing until the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream of the housing reaches the initial pressure difference specified by the high flow filter cartridge.

2. Horizontal FRP Filtration System Installation and Replacement Guide

1) Firstly, check to ensure that the horizontal FRP high flow filter housing is not damaged and the specifications meet the requirements, then open the end caps at both ends of the housing, and take out the fixed mount, thrust ring and other parts in the housing;

2) Keep the FRP filtration system in a shutdown state, and close the upstream inlet valve and downstream outlet valve of the housing tightly. If you are installing One unit FRP filter housing, directly connect and fix the clamp of the inlet/outlet with the inlet/outlet pipe. If install multiple units of FRP filter housings, you need to assemble multiple filter housings in a vertical parallel manner, and then connect the clamp of the housing inlet/outlet to the inlet/outlet pipes respectively;

3) Install a pressure relief valve around the pipe between the FPR filter housing and the inlet valve or outlet valve, and install a pressure gauge upstream and downstream of the filter housing respectively;

4) If a High Flow Filter is installed, directly clean the inside of the FRP housing with clean water. If you want to replace the high flow filter cartridge, you need to open the pressure relief valve to reduce the pressure inside the filter housing, open the end caps of the housing, take out the high flow filter cartridge that needs to be replaced, and then rinse the inside of the housing with clean water;

5) Unpack the new high flow filter cartridge and wet the sealing ring with a suitable lubricant. Then hold the handle at one end of the filter cartridge by hand, install the filter cartridge into the housing horizontally. After the sealing ring on the filter cartridge is completely in close contact with the retaining ring of the filter housing, install the fixed mount, then fix the thrust ring to the bottom of the filter cartridge, install the end caps at both ends of the housing and seal it;

6) Start the horizontal FRP filtration system, first open the pressure relief valve, and then slightly open the water inlet valve upstream of the filter housing, let the liquid enter and fill full the housing, until the liquid overflows from the pressure relief port, close the pressure relief valve;

7) Slowly open the water outlet valve downstream of the FRP filter housing until it is fully opened, and then slowly adjust the water inlet valve upstream of the filter housing until the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream of the filter housing reaches the initial pressure difference specified by the high flow filter cartridge.

What Precautions Should be Taken During the Installation and Replacement of FRP Filtration System?

1) When replacing the high flow filter, you must first open the exhaust valve/pressure relief valve to reduce the internal pressure of the FRP housing, and then open the cover on the top of the housing, otherwise the operator may be injured due to excessive pressure.

2) When installing the FRP filter housing, it must be ensured that the inlet/outlet flange of the filter housing is correctly connected to the inlet/outlet pipe. If the direction of the inlet/outlet is installed incorrectly, it will cause irreversible damage to the high flow filter cartridge.

3) Ensure that there is no liquid leakage at the connection positions of the pressure gauge, exhaust valve/pressure relief valve, drain valve, and inlet/outlet flange of the FRP high flow filter housing, and there is good sealing, otherwise the working efficiency of the filter housing will be reduced.

4) When installing or replacing the high flow cartridge, the sealing ring on the filter cartridge and the sealing groove of the FRP filter housing must be in close contact with each other, and there is no liquid leakage. Otherwise, the filtration efficiency of the FRP filtration system will be reduced, and the entire project can not be continued.

5) When the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream pressure gauges of the filter housing reaches the required replacement differential pressure for the high flow filter, the filter cartridge should be replaced in time. Otherwise, the working efficiency of the filtration system will be reduced because the liquid flow can not meet the requirement.
