The filter pore size of the reverse osmosis filtration system is only 0.0001 microns, and it is usually used to produce pure water. In order to prevent larger pollutants from entering system and causing blockage, a pre-filtration system will be installed before the reverse osmosis. The system generally uses stainless steel, FRP and plastic filter systems. Let’s take a look at how to choose a suitable reverse osmosis pre-filtration system.

Stainless Steel Filtration System

The stainless steel filter system usually consists of SUS304/SUS316L filter housing and filter consumables. The filter consumables generally use High Flow Filter, Depth Filter Cartridge or Liquid Filter Bag with 5 micron. Because stainless steel filter housing are corroded by liquids with high salt content, they are generally used for liquid filtration with low salt content.

1. Stainless Steel High Flow Filtration System

The high flow stainless steel filter system generally consists of a stainless steel high flow filter housing and high flow filters. According to the influent flow requirements of reverse osmosis, the pre-filtration system can directly use a stainless steel filter housing with one or more High Flow Filters of different specifications, or connect multiple stainless steel filter housing in parallel.

2. Stainless Steel Cartridge Filtration System

Stainless steel cartridge filter system is generally composed of stainless steel cartridge filter housing and depth filter cartridges. The pre-filtration system can directly use one set or multiple sets of stainless steel filter housing with depth filter cartridges of different specification working in parallel. According to the specific requirements of reverse osmosis influent water, Pleated Filter Cartridge, Melt Blown Cartridge or String Wound Cartridge can be chosen to install into the housing.

3. Stainless Steel Bag Filter Filtration System

Stainless steel bag filtration system usually consists of stainless bag filter housing and Liquid Filter Bag. According to the requirements of reverse osmosis influent flow, the pre-filtration system can choose to directly use one or multiple stainless steel filters in parallel with Size #1, Size #2, Size #3 or Size #4 filter bag.

FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) Filtration System

The FRP filtration system is generally composed of FRP filter housing and High Flow Filter, Liquid Filter Bag, Melt Blown Cartridge with 5 micron. It is generally used in liquid with high salt content, such as Seawater, Brackish Water Desalination, etc.

1. FRP High Flow Filtration System

The high flow FRP filtration system usually consists of FRP high flow filter housing and High Flow Filter Cartridge. You can choose vertical type or horizontal type high flow filter housing and a corresponding number of different model High Flow Cartridge Filters according to specific requirements.

2. FRP Cartridge Filtration System

The FRP cartridge filtration system is generally composed of FRP cartridge filter housing and Melt Blow Filter Cartridge. According to the requirements of reveres osmosis influent water, the pre-filtration system can choose to directly use one unit or multiple FRP cartridge filter housing with 5/12/24pcs melt blown cartridge filters of different length working in parallel.

3. FRP Bag Filtration System

FRP bag filtration system generally consists of FRP bag filter housing and size #2 Filter Bag. The bag filter housing can be installed with one or more size #2 filter bags, and the reveres osmosis pre-filtration system can choose to use one or more FRP bag filter housing according to specific flow requirements.

Plastic (PPH) Filtration System

Plastic filtration system are usually composed of PPH (Polypropylene Homopolymer) filter housing and filtration consumables, such as High Flow Filter Cartridge, Liquid Filter Bag or Depth Filter Cartridge with 5 micron. PPH (Plastic) filtration system are usually used in highly corrosive liquid filtration environments.

1. PPH High Flow Filtration System

Plastic high flow filtration system usually consists of PPH high flow filter housing and High Flow Cartridge Filter. In order to meet the flow requirements of reverse osmosis influent water, the pretreatment system can choose to directly use one or multiple plastic filter housing with 30" high flow filter working in parallel.

2. PPH Cartridge Filtration System

The plastic cartridge filtration system is generally composed of plastic filter housing and depth filter cartridge (Melt Blown Cartridge, Pleated Filter Cartridge or String Wound Cartridge). You can choose to use one or multiple plastic (PPH) filter housing in parallel, and multiple depth filter cartridge with 20 inches/ 30 inches to form the pre-filtration system required for RO system.

3. PPH Bag Filtration System

Plastic bag filtration system generally consist of plastic (PPH) bag filter housing and Liquid Filter Bags of Size #1, Size #2, Size #4, Size #5 or Size #6. According to the specific flow requirements of RO influent water, the pre-filtration system can choose to directly use one or multiple plastic filter housings with one or more liquid filter bags of different specifications working in parallel.

When designing and selecting a RO pre-filtration system, in order to select the most suitable pre-filtration system, it is necessary to confirm which components and corrosion strengths the filtrate contains, and must choose filter housing and filter consumable that are compatible with the filtrate, then compare the filtration costs of different solutions, and finally choose the most attractive in price and quality.
